By Apostle Blake L. Higginbotham
2Corinthians 9:2 for I know your willingness, about which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal [Passion] has stirred up the majority. (NKJ)
Prophetic: Is about hearing from Yahweh and then speaking through words, lifestyles, and actions.
Passion: Is intense emotion compelling action. Is a strong devotion to some object, activity or concept.
Why people lack Passion
1. They become familiar with and make things just ordinary.
2. We want acceptance and approval.
Passion draws and repels people at the same time.
3. Our society is passive! The one concern we should all have for
America and Yahshua’s church is the apathy and passive mind- set that has crept in. Garfield said that his pet peeve was people who start things and do not finish them. Therefore, he stated he just never started anything he would have to finish. People without passion never start things. They are much talk but no action.
4. Apathy tends to increase with age! We must fight to not give in
to apathy as we grow older.
5. When we have no purpose beyond our selves! People who are
selfish are people who lack passion. Passion has energy. Passion fuels our souls to take action.
? – WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
Matthew 6:21 “ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (NKJ)
People who live only for themselves are in a mighty small business.
A Gallup Poll study shows: The number one factor for credibility in the passion of the leaders.
A Prophetically Passionate Person
· Is goal orientated (Visionary)
· Is a self starter
· Has a positive, optimistic attitude
· Gives 100% all the time
· Strives for excellence
· Is creative at getting things done well, no matter what it costs
· Is not satisfied with just “ good enough”
· Has a whatever it takes attitude and sees beyond the obstacles
· Always accepts responsibility
· Does not shift the blame or make up excuses
· Believes in people
· Inspires others to do their best
· Rises to leadership
What the Power of Passion Will Do For Us
· Passion is the first step to achievement! The starting place of all achievement is desire. Always remember – If you got it you will achieve if you don’t you can’t.
· Weak desires bring weak results – Apathy will not get you anywhere in life, but who cares.
· Passion increases willpower! The key to willpower is
“ wantpower. “ People who want something badly enough will find the willpower to achieve it.
· Passion changes me.
· Passion for souls will change your priorities.
· Passion for growth will change your methods of doing things.
· Passion for people will change your ministry.
· Passion to be a leader of leaders will change your goals.
· Passion changes others.
A Leader’s Greatest Gift is Passion
· Followers need passionate leaders. People are instructed by reason, but motivated and inspired by passion.
· Passion is the birthplace of dreams. Passion turns a dreamer into a doer.
· Passion insures results. Results bring victory.
People can be instructed by reason, but they are only inspired by passion.
There is a difference between interests and commitment. When you are interested in doing something, you do it when it is convenient. When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.
Bill Hybels quote: “People do not drift into commitment, they do drift into complacency.”
Commitment without prophetic passion is focus without fuel.
Passion without commitment is heart without backbone.
Commitment without passion will only cause you to become a has been or burned out.
Commitment with prophetic passion will cause you to become a history maker. Passion is influence.
A.W. Tozer’s quote: “Passion is the foundation of every great move of Yahweh.”
Jonathan Edwards’s quote: “Passion, it is the heart of every great leader.”
Preached this morning at 6:00am to 1200 ministers and was thrown out of church.
Preached at 10:00am to a crowd and it was totally unsuccessful.
Preached at 2:00pm and they hated me.
Preached at 5:00pm and the response was negative.
Preached at 10:00pm and 150 were saved. Praise Yahweh the religious went home.
Andrew Carnegia quote: “Passion, it is the difference between Good and Great.”
Michael Jordan quote: "Heart is what separates the Good and the Great."
Where and When Should We Invest Our Passion?
Galatians 4:18 But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always, not only when I am present with you. (NKJ)
1. Where the purpose of our passion is good!
2. Always, not just when our leaders are with us.
Walter Lippman quote: The final test of a leader is that they leave behind in others, the conviction and will to carry on.
Preference and Conviction
Preference- is something you hold
Conviction – is something that hold you
Prophetic Passion Will Produce Courage.
Courage Comes From a Heart Convicted by Passion.
· George Patton – Courage is holding on a minute longer
· Karl Barth – Courage is fear that has said it’s prayers
· John Wayne – Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway
· Andrew Jackson – One man with courage makes a majority
· Edward Everett Hale – I am only one, but I am one, I cannot do everything, but I can do something, and what I can do, I ought to do, and what I ought to do by the grace of God I shall do.
The French Foreign Legions are taught to say this:
If I falter, push me on. If I stumble, pick me up. If I retreat, shoot me.
Signs of No Prophetic Passion
· Words with no actions.
· Busyness without purpose.
· Calendars without a Sabbath. (No quiet time)
· Relationships with no mutual nourishment. (One way flow)
· No self – examination.
· Natural giftedness, but no Spiritual power. (People of Oz)
· Theology/religion without relationship.
What You Commit Yourself To Is What You Are
Three questions to ask yourself:
1. What am I committed to?
2. Where do you want to go from here?
3. Once you get there what do you want to be?
People who have not answered these questions are people who have no identity, no personality, no direction and most of all no passion.
If you answer these three questions you will then:
1. Stand when no one else is standing!
2. Keep standing when others sit down!
3. Standout when no one else is speaking!
